Celtic widened their lead in the Scottish Premier League to 10 points with a 3-1 win at Motherwell yesterday.

Polish striker Maciej Zurawski drilled Celtic ahead after 13 minutes before Motherwell captain Jim Hamilton levelled with a superb volley from the penalty arc four minutes before the break.

Celtic substitute Aiden McGeady fired a deflected shot past goalkeeper Graeme Smith after 71 minutes and McGeady set up the third goal with a fine run and low cross from the left for Welsh striker John Hartson to slot home 14 minutes later.

Celtic are top with 57 points from 23 games. Hearts are second with 47 points after losing 1-0 at Kilmarnock on Saturday. Champions Rangers, who trail the leaders by 17 points, romped to a 4-1 home win over bottom club Livingston.

Manager Gordon Strachan praised Celtic for keeping their cool in a tough game.

"I thought our discipline was absolutely fantastic today. It was quite tasty out there and for us not to react to anything was fantastic," he told TV reporters.

Strachan and Motherwell manager Terry Butcher agreed Hamilton's goal was from the top drawer.

"There is no way any team in the world could have stopped that one. It will be goal of the season and it must be Jim's best goal," said Strachan.

Strachan's decision to bring McGeady instead of Shunsuke Nakamura in the 64th minute changed the game.

"I am a lucky manager that I can bring on someone like him. He was mentally right to take that opportunity."
