Egypt striker Mido toasted his goal in the 3-0 win over Libya at the African Nations Cup on Friday after acknowledging the hosts had felt the pressure in the opening game of the tournament.
Mido headed the home team into an 18th-minute lead before Mohamed Aboutrika curled home a free kick and Ahmed Hassan knocked in the third in the Group A tie.
Egypt players have often complained about the pressure they face in home games and the expectations weighed heavily in an opener watched by President Hosni Mubarak.
"We were really stressed in today's match," Mido said. "But despite all the pressure, thank God, we were able to win.
"I'm pleased with the goal because it came at a very crucial moment and enabled us to go on and score more. But we mustn't exaggerate this win today, there's still a long road ahead."
Mido's goal continued a fine run of form at club level with Tottenham, who could be without their imposing target man for up to three weeks. The striker made it clear where his sense of duty lies.
"The timing of the tournament is not the best but I have to pay back my country," said Mido.
