Following various discussions held between top officials of the Malta Resources Authority (MRA) and the FOI, a joint committee was established. The main aim of this joint committee is to aid industry in identifying and tapping more efficient and effective uses of energy sources, especially due to the effects experienced following the surges in oil prices that occurred in past months.
The first meeting of this joint committee discussed aspects related to gas oil supplies, fuel storage licences, bio- diesel supplies, the UK Government initiative promoting more efficient use of energy, the use of standby generators, fuel surcharge capping per company rather than per plant, services at each industrial estate, power factor correction in industry, as well as energy consumption in industry and the introduction of energy audits.
The MRA is represented on this joint MRA-FOI committee by its director of Energy Resources, Godwin Sant, and MRA official Phyllis Borg. The FOI side is made up of FOI Environment Working Group chairman Godwin C. Micallef, FOI director general Wilfred Kenely, FOI Environment Working Group deputy chairman Mario Duca and FOI members Jonathan Scerri of Actavis Ltd, Alessio Gatt of Trelleborg Sealing Solutions Malta Ltd and Philip Farrugia of Methode Electronics Malta Ltd.
