The F.O.I. Meat Processing Sector Group on Monday called on Dr Philip von Brockdorff, permanent secretary at the Ministry for Rural Affairs and the Environment, who was accompanied by Dr Angele Casha, director, Department of Food Health and Diagnostics, as well as Dr Nicholas Bonanno, director (Policy Development).

The first half of the meeting was dedicated to issues relating to the requirements established by EU Regulations on Minced Meat both in its pre-packed form and when processed directly to the consumer.

Of particular concern, the FOI members highlighted the frequency and quantity of samples required for laboratory testing of production lines.

During the second half of the meeting, the discussion focused on matters relating to Temporary State Aids being granted by the ministry, including the proportion of bank guarantees required and their release procedure.

Other matters discussed during this meeting included aspects relating to health marks of local meat and poultry supplies, as well as the consultation process between the FOI and the ministry on draft EU legislation.
