Last november, during a radio phone-in programme, I asked Minister Dolores Cristina whether the commission appointed by her ministry had concluded its report on the 1939 rent law. She said she had presented it to Cabinet, and it would be discussed in Parliament at a later date, as there were other urgent matters on the agenda.
So far, after the Christmas recess, nothing has been said or done about rent reform.
I know that Mrs Cristina is doing her utmost but she is facing many obstacles from people who are benefiting from this great injustice.
I urge her to put her foot down and not let others interfere in her ministry's mission. She agreed with me that the law has to be reformed; so did Minister Tonio Borg and Dr Michael Asciak, MP.
I beg Mrs Cristina to work for this law to be reformed. She will be an example to all other ministers and MPs that justice comes before votes.
