Following the media coverage of alcohol abuse, open bars and lack of proper laws and regulation, I'd just like to point out that ecstasy pills do not go down well with alcohol. In fact what one should drink when on ecstasy is just water.

I suppose the authorities are exploring this avenue too in trying to see why so many youngsters were so sick on New Year's Eve. Unfortunately many of them are consuming ridiculous amounts of ecstasy pills in order to reach that ultimate "high" and enjoy their senses to the fullest. What they may not be aware of is that Es (like other drugs) kill brain cells and that their brains will never be the same again. When they realise that there is more to life than parties and being high, it may well be too late for their brains and oftentimes for their reputations too. Es cause short-term memory loss, which will affect them in everyday life. They may think it's all trivial now but believe me, the whole scene will take its toll on them sooner or later. I talk from experience.

Youngsters really ought to examine themselves and truly see why they are resorting to these forms of enjoyment. I know I did because I had a big emptiness inside that needed filling. Drugs seemed to do the trick for a while but that was it precisely, just a trick! Life went downhill in every way until I found true happiness and joy: I had a personal revelation. I was born again and became hooked on something else - Jesus. I realised and experienced that there is nothing better than Him in life. He has guided my every step for the last 15 years and I have never looked back.

Things have not always been easy or plain sailing but I've grown and matured. I now love life and all that it brings with it without the need of external stimuli. I just pray that more youngsters would be spared the pain and the hell they go through when they start meddling with drugs, no matter how harmless they may initially seem. I've been there and wish to be able to tell them that there is only one way to real ecstasy: Jesus our Saviour and Deliverer.
