Australia's next test series against the West Indies, scheduled for 2007, has been postponed indefinitely, Cricket Australia (CA) said yesterday. The series was due to be played in the Caribbean after the World Cup but was dropped when the West Indies Cricket Board said it would prefer not to host two major tournaments in a year. Global scheduling is looming as one of the most important issues at the next International Cricket Council board meeting in March. India have threatened to pull out of future editions of the Champions Trophy so they can play more matches against Australia and England.

Former world champion Kenny Roberts junior will ride for his father and namesake in a Honda-powered MotoGP team this year. Honda will supply British-based Team KR with 900cc engines to power a Roberts-designed bike. American rider Roberts junior won the 500cc world championship with Suzuki in 2000, becoming the first son of a champion to take the title, but left them at the end of a disappointing 2005 season.

Hall of Fame jockey Jerry Bailey, twice winner of the Kentucky Derby, will retire from racing at the end of the month. "It is with great emotion that I'm announcing my retirement as a jockey in the sport of horse racing," he said in a statement. Bailey, 48, will become a thoroughbred racing analyst with ABC and ESPN television when he retires after 31 years in the saddle. He has six Triple Crown wins and 15 Breeders Cup triumphs among his 5,892 victories.
