As a Norwegian, and especially being from the west coast of Norway, I know what a bridge can mean to the population. The western part of Norway is the land of bridges, including the Nordhordland floating bridge just outside Bergen, which is the second largest city in Norway.
As a tourist who visits Gozo three to four times a year, I would prefer not to have a bridge but rather a fast shuttle between Luqa airport and the ferry harbour. The traffic would increase quite a lot if a bridge were built, and the peaceful island of Gozo would be transformed into a complete traffic jam without a better road system.
Tourists who cross over daily from Malta come in buses - would they come by car if there were a bridge?
But the main thing is: what do the inhabitants of Gozo want?
