I would like to express my shock at the blind racist tendencies of some people.

On New Year's Eve, I was entering a bar with a group of friends when one of my friends was stopped. I saw him show his ID card and then an argument seemed to break out. I stepped forward to hear what was being said. The words are still ringing in my ears:

"It is our policy that we do not let illegal immigrants into this bar."

Leaving aside all the arguments about irregular migration, my friend is not an irregular migrant and he showed the bouncer a Maltese ID card.

The decision not to let him into the bar was based on one thing only - the colour of his skin!

I hope this story outrages people as much as it has outraged me. It is time for people to stand up for what is right.

I appeal to everyone who is reading this to send letters to the newspapers to show that the Maltese people will not stand for such racist behaviour.
