A number of Maltese vine farmers have received training from two top Italian viticulturists at Marsovin's private estates.
The winemaker said Luigi Tarricone and Giuseppe DeBartolomeo dealt with the latest practices in the world of vineyard management and viticulture, including pruning techniques and canopy management.
Dr Tarricone and Mr DeBartolomeo have been Marsovin's estate consultants since 2003.
Dr Tarricone is a lecturer at the University of Foggia and is a consultant to the Torrevento Winery, as well as a viticulture consultant to many other small wineries in Puglia. Mr DeBartolomeo, who assisted him, has a diploma in agriculture and over 25 years experience in the field. Marsovin said the series of lectures, organised by its estate management team led by viticulturist Christian Cremona, form part of its strategy to enhance the farming community's knowledge and the future of local wine making.
This approach, Marsovin said, has started to reap benefits as the company continues to increase its portfolio of locally produced international award winning premium wines.
Marsovin, which is now in its 87th year of operation, recently won a silver medal at Effervescents du Monde 2005, a top international wine competition held in Dijon, France, for its premium sparkling wine Cassar de Malte.
