No wonder residents near this "wheely bin", or skip, complain of the dirt, rats, and smell from the rubbish thrown inside and outside the bin. Apart from the Scammel collection every morning in Mensija Street, there are two such bins, which seem to be full as soon as they are emptied. We have cars pulling up from other parts of, I hope, St Julians, full of rubbish that is deposited in the bins.
And, of course, we have a poor dog, who seems to be very hungry scavenging through the various bags looking for food. Unfortunately, this dog, today, being Sunday, at 10 a.m., had all the bags scattered along the vicinity of the bin, and in the streets.
I cannot understand why, most residents, when they see that the bin is full to the brim, pile the bags around the skip. Why not take it back home and put the rubbish outside their residence so that the Scammel, which, as I said, comes round every morning, can collect it from near their doors?
I think the council should make it a point to remove the said bins, and put us in the same situation as other residents around the island and do what we used to do years ago, that is get rid of the rubbish on a daily basis thanks to the hard working Scammel employees.
Writing about the "wheely bins", is it not about time that the large opening beside the bin, in Triq Is-Sajjieda, on the pavement was made safe? After all this hole did appear over a year ago. It seems no one cares around these parts.
