Local football action was severely restricted yesterday after the BoV Premier and Division One league matches were called off due to inclement weather.

A press release from the Malta FA announced that two Premier League matches due to have taken place yesterday at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, will now be played tomorrow evening at the Centenary Stadium.

The revised programme sees Mosta taking on Hamrun Spartans at 6 p.m. while Floriana square up to Marsaxlokk at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, the two matches from the BoV Premier League went ahead as planned at the National Stadium.

In the opening match, Ivan Woods and Daniel Bogdanovic collected a brace of goals each to guide champions Sliema Wanderers to a 4-1 victory over Msida St Joseph.

The second fixture was a direct encounter between title contenders Hibernians and Birkirkara which the latter deservedly won by two goals to nil. Birkirkara's victory lifted them to the top of the standings, level with Hibernians and Sliema Wanderers on 34 points.

Marsaxlokk will be looking to trim the gap on the leading trio to four points by taking maximum spoils from their clash with Floriana tomorrow.

Division One

The Division One league was scheduled to continue yesterday with two matches at the Hibernians Ground but the programme was also disrupted by heavy rains.

The matches postponed yesterday have been rescheduled for Wednesday, both to be played at the Centenary Stadium.

The match between Naxxar Lions and St Andrews, starting at 6 p.m., will be followed by the Senglea Athletic-San Gwann encounter at 8 p.m.
