Fort St Angelo (2)

At long last it has been announced that Fort St Angelo is being given a much overdue facelift.

Finally, the authorities have realised the vast potential of this historic place after long years of neglect and a huge cleaning up operation is due shortly.

In the words of Minister Francis Zammit Dimech, the fort could well be the magnet that the Cottonera area needs to attract more tourists, something I and several others have been writing about for years.

Now it is imperative that the restoration be undertaken with kid gloves and every effort made to preserve the fort's integrity.

The fort's potential lies in its history - let us not repeat the mistake of the early Eighties when an attempt was made to turn the fort into a tourist complex, complete with swimming pool and disco!
