I refer to the article by Julian Borg entitled All I Wanted For Christmas (December 27).

The local council would like to say that over the past years we have constantly replied to complaints made by residents and even articles published in all local papers in the sense that Luqa Briffa Street needs to be reconstructed and that, according to the Local Councils Act, this falls under the responsibility of the central government. Mr Borg's ironic comments should have been directed to the competent directorate, thus increasing the pressure the council is constantly putting.

Consequent to our letters and the meetings held, I have been promised by Minister Jesmond Mugliett that funds have been allocated to carry out the infrastructural works in the said street.

Portraying the council as being irresponsible as far as the residents' complaints go will lead to nowhere let alone to induce any goodwill. However, a copy of this letter will be forwarded to the Ministry for Urban Development and Roads.
