A father and a son from Birkirkara were yesterday fined Lm750 by Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera after they admitted to charges of assaulting a warden.
Peter Borg, 49, and his son Peter, 24, were charged by Police Inspector Victor Aquilina with having, on July 7, 2005 while in Iklin, attacked or violently resisted local warden Carlo Manolito Sultana while the latter was carrying out his duties. The two men were also accused of having threatened the warden and with having caused him slight injuries.
The prosecution further charged them with having damaged a car belonging to third parties and with damaging the warden's property.
The father was charged with blaspheming in public and with having threatened the warden while the son was charged with having violated the conditions of a previous court judgment.
The magistrate noted that the two men pleaded guilty to the charges. After taking into consideration the recommendations of the prosecution, the court fined the father Lm500 while the son was charged Lm250. The two were also bound over for a year not to molest the warden and this against a penalty of Lm100.
