Robust Gozo link

I agree with Carmel Camilleri (January 4) on all counts. However I must stress that I do not believe that there are only a few people in Gozo who want the bridge. On the contrary, nowadays, I would say that it is the majority of Gozitans who want it.

It is only the very few (who, unfortunately, happen to be among the top of the Gozitan society and, hence, are in an influential position) who claim that Gozitans do not want the bridge.

These people never had the need to endure the daily travel sufferings, as early as 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., like most of the working class had and still have to experience.

So they can never understand the need for a bridge between Malta and Gozo. Why not carry out a survey on the issue among the Gozitans and get their direct feeling?

I have to admit that with the introduction of new ships and the upgrading of Mgarr and Cirkewwa terminals the service has improved along the years and can improve even further.

But the daily commuters still have to cope with an inadequate service.

In order to respect the travellers, when we discuss this matter, let's not stop with the ferry service but let's also consider and give due attention and importance to the shameful situation travellers still have to face by rushing to board the first bus available so as not to waste precious time.

The needs that even the smallest of the Gozitan businessman has must also be taken into consideration.

Not to mention all the time lost waiting for the next ferry.
