Seasonally adjusted unemployment in the eurozone stood at 8.3 per cent last November, the same as in the previous month, according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Communities.
The rate was 8.8 per cent in November 2004.
The EU25 unemployment rate was 8.5 per cent last November, unchanged compared to October. It stood at nine per cent in November 2004.
The lowest rates for unemployment last November were registered in Ireland (4.3 per cent), Denmark (4.5 per cent), the Netherlands (4.7 per cent), the UK (4.8 per cent in September) and Austria (5.2 per cent).
Unemployment rates were highest in Poland (17.4 per cent), Slovakia (16.0 per cent), Greece (10.1 per cent in third quarter of 2005), Germany (9.3 per cent), France (9.2 per cent) and Latvia (8.6 per cent).
In Malta, the number of unemployed people between July and September 2005 was estimated at 11,614.
The unemployment rate stood at 7.3 per cent, according to the Labour Force Survey for that quarter published by the National Statistics Office.
