A coalition of pro-environment organisations called Eko-logika has written to the Malta Environment and Planning Authority expressing its strong objection to proposed development of an area in Ta' Cenc into Malta's first heritage park and multi-ownership tourist hotel development.
Coalition members Alternattiva Demokratika, AD-Gozo Regional Committee, Fondazzjoni Ceratonia, Kopin, Graffitti, Inizjamed, Dripht, Zminijietna, Lehen ix-Xellug, Third World Group, University Chaplaincy, AD Zghazagh - Green Youth, and the Sannat Residents' Association said the proposal seeks to develop large tracts of virgin land at Ta' Cenc as a heritage site including about 49 bungalows and 67 villas.
They said such development should not be permitted because it will cause irreversible damage to the flora and fauna at the Ta' Cenc garigue including unique species that can only be found in this area.
Eko-logika said the proposed development is the result of pressure from the mass tourism market that has already spoiled so much of the coastline, and increasingly so in Gozo.
