A 30-year-old man from Birkirkara is today expected to be charged with attempted murder after he allegedly shot a 19-year-old man from Sliema.

Ignatius Joseph Fenech sustained firearm wounds after being shot at about noon in Ponsonby Street, Gzira on Saturday while he was in a Mercedes with a 10-year-old boy and another person.

Sources said the man who allegedly shot Mr Fenech was known to have had arguments about a gold necklace with Mr Fenech before. It is believed that the two had had an argument some time before the shooting took place. Mr Fenech left and returned some time later when which was shot by a pistol.

The victim personally reported the incident at the Sliema police station and was then taken to St Luke's Hospital in a private car. He was in a critical condition at one point but his condition improved and became stable.

CID Inspector Charles Magri and district Inspector Daniel Zammit are investigating.
