Anyone walking into the Nationalist Party headquarters yesterday morning would have been forgiven for making a double take as Labour Party leader Alfred Sant was given a warm welcome by his political opponents. It was all smiles and handshakes as Dr Sant and general secretary Jason Micallef were taken around the new wing of the PN headquarters by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and secretary general Joe Saliba.

Several Nationalist officials were taken by surprise as Dr Sant and Mr Micallef turned up 20 minutes early.

Dr Sant met up with all the employees of Medialink, and was presented with a caricature from Il-Mument depicting the Labour leader and former Prime Minister Eddie Fenech Adami together celebrating Birkirkara FC's championship. He was later also presented with the recently published history of the Nationalist Party, before the leaders engaged in a private discussion.

The last time a party leader made such a tour was when Dr Fenech Adami visited the newly inaugurated MLP headquarters in Hamrun.
