An overall drop of 19.9 per cent was registered in the total industrial new orders index last October compared to the same month in the previous year, the National Statistics Office said.

The domestic new orders index registered an increase of 62.5 per cent. On the other hand, the export new orders index dipped by 21.5 per cent.

Increases were registered in the manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi trailers.

Drops of 53.8 per cent and 36.8 per cent respectively were recorded in the manufacture of textiles and textile products and the manufacture of machinery and equipment.

Increases in new orders for the domestic market were recorded in the manufacture of medical, precision and optical instruments, watches and clocks and electrical machinery and apparatus.

Drops were registered in the machinery and equipment and manufacture of textiles and textile products by 76.9 per cent and 28.3 per cent respectively.

With regard to export new orders, an increase was registered in the manufacture of other transport equipment and in the manufacture of electrical machinery and apparatus. These were equivalent to 104.5 per cent and 82.5 per cent respectively. The most pronounced drop occurred in the manufacture of textiles and textile products, the NSO said.
