A survey by the Malta Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprise, GRTU, indicates that business during the Christmas period was "worse than expected" for half the retailers interviewed.

Asked if sales were better than 2004, 38 per cent said it was neither better nor worse and 31 per cent said their sales had gone down by between five to 10 per cent.
