Officials from the Malta Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises, GRTU met a delegation from the Malta Labour Party, headed by party leader Alfred Sant, as part of a series of meetings with the government and the opposition in preparation for its annual general conference on January 15.

The theme of the conference is "The Situation Of Small And Medium Enterprise In Malta And Gozo At The End Of 2005, Prospects For 2006".

The conference will analyse the result of a survey among SME operators about future prospects.

The GRTU said the authorities were not conscious enough of the needs of SMEs, a situation which, apart from causing hardship to operators, was leading to a slowdown in economic development.

The GRTU feels that not only were SME operators not being given assistance but they were facing increasing obstacles.
