Tourism and Culture Minister Francis Zammit Dimech yesterday underlined the massive potential of the under-utilised Fort St Angelo which is being given a facelift.

Dr Zammit Dimech said the fort had the potential to boost in a big way the meagre eight per cent of incoming tourists that visit Cottonera.

"This certainly doesn't reflect the cultural and historical potential of the Three Cities," the minister said as he toured the embellishment works being carried out at Fort St Angelo.

Dr Zammit Dimech said the process to shift the Cultural Heritage Superintendence to Fort St Angelo is part of a larger restructuring process within the Culture Ministry.

The Malta Tourism Authority and the Malta Council for Culture and Arts were also undergoing a radical restructuring process and the Bighi Centre for Restoration was amalgamated with Heritage Malta.
