Ray Bondin, executive coordinator of the Rehabilitation Projects Office within the Ministry for Resources and the Infrastructure, was the main speaker at a seminar organised by the provincial region of Catania on problems relating to heritage protection in Sicily.
Mount Etna was nominated for recognition as a World Heritage site by Unesco during the seminar, which was attended by about 20 mayors from the region and various officials involved in heritage protection work.
Raffaele Lombardo, president of the regional province of Catania, described Dr Bondin as a great friend of Sicily who was involved in all the major initiatives taken over the last years to safeguard Sicilian heritage. He presented him with a Maiollica terracotta map of Sicily made for the occasion.
Dr Bondin held two days of intensive discussions about problems relating to the protection of Sicilian heritage and visited a number of important projects being carried out.
