Godfrey Swain has been appointed head of HSBC Bank Malta's personal financial services, succeeding John Hackett who has occupied the office for the past two years.

Mr Swain will be taking up his new appointment in February when Mr Hackett will be returning to the UK to a senior position as head of service and sales in the HSBC Bank plc in the UK.

HSBC Bank Malta's personal financial services structure now embraces the area directors and retail branch network, the wealth management, premier and private client sales teams, the consumer finance grouping of cards, personal lending and home loans.

Mr Swain is an executive director on the bank's two main subsidiary companies, HSBC Fund Management and HSBC Life Assurance, which both form part of the personal financial services customer group.

The personal financial services business employs over 600 executive, supervisory and clerical staff and has achieved high levels of customer service and record sales and profits in recent years.

"Godfrey has a strong track record within the bank through his previous work as managing director of HSBC Life and as head of the bank's marketing unit. He has a detailed knowledge of our business both in Malta and around the group and a good understanding of the HSBC philosophy and brand values. I have every confidence that under Godfrey's leadership our personal financial services will continue to go from strength to strength and would like to congratulate him on his appointment," Shaun Wallis, the chief executive officer of HSBC Bank Malta, said.

Mr Swain is a business graduate from Monash University in Victoria, Australia and holds various qualifications in strategic management and other disciplines. He has travelled extensively within the HSBC Group.

"I am looking forward to taking up this new appointment in an already very successful business, working closely with a great team of executives and staff," Mr Swain said.
