Deputy PM recalls police sacrifices

Justice Minister Tonio Borg has wished a speedy recovery to the policemen who were involved in an incident in the early hours of the New Year.

In his message to the Police Commissioner, in which he thanked the corps for its hard work during the festive period and for managing to keep order, Dr Borg laid stress on the respect that everyone should have for the authorities.

Every crime that involves an attack on a member of the police corps cannot be allowed to go by without being punished as it deserved, Dr Borg said.

"When a policeman is keeping order, he is doing it in the name of society in general, so every abuse against a person in uniform is an attack against the state authority," the Deputy Prime Minister said.

"When the police are victims of such incidents, we should remember the sacrifices they make every day to keep the order in the country even when the majority of the population is having fun and enjoying the festivities with their families."
