Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce students who attended classes in arts, crafts and music received their prizes during a ceremony held recently at Palazzo De La Salle, in Valletta.

The audience was entertained by students Christanne Attard on the piano, Peter Paul Borg and Lukas Galea on the guitar and Rachel Vella Baldacchino and Reuben Vella Baldacchino on the violin. Prizes were awarded to the top students for Malta lace, embroidery, ganutell, filigree, art, violin, guitar and pianoforte.

In all, 65 students were awarded prizes and certificates. About 500 students attend classes at the society every term.

Austrian Ambassador Elizabeth Kehrer recently paid a visit to the society's premises, where she was shown the art, lace, parchment and beading classes in action.

The society is Malta's oldest cultural society and has been teaching various arts, crafts and musical skills for over 150 years.
