A 28-year-old man from St Julian's was grievously injured after he lost control of his car, mounted a kerb and crashed into an electricity pole in Professor Walter Ganado Street, Pembroke, on Friday evening.

Anthony Chircop, who was driving a Hyundai Lantra, had a 23-year-old passenger with him when the accident happened at around 9.30 p.m.

The passenger escaped with slight injuries, but Mr Chircop's condition was critical when he was rushed to St Luke's Hospital. His condition has since improved, the police said. Magistrate Joe Cassar appointed several experts to help him in his inquiry.
