The US Embassy sponsored a storytelling festival for Maltese students in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Maltese group of storytellers Narraturi 21.

Over 1,100 students from public, Church, private and special schools attended the three-day festival. Students met and listened to Rose Red Elk, also known as Red Feather Woman, from the Sioux (Lakota)/Assiniboine community.

For many Maltese students it was their first opportunity to meet a native American woman.

Through stories that are handed down by word of mouth generation by generation in the Lakota/Assiniboine communities, Rose Red Elk gave a captivating performance combining stories with music and audiovisual effects.

Her narratives, filled with imagination, included stories and songs about various environmental themes.
