Philip M. Bonello (Weather Report, December 21) rushed into print to defend Mark Vella Gera of maltaweather.com, getting the wrong end of the stick. I never criticised the forecasting by this website. All I said was that when on Republic Day it was pouring down with rain and that by early morning parts of Malta were flooded, the website specifically said: Current situation: cloudy with light rain. It was pelting down at the time.

This is a fact and so no apology will be forthcoming. Another thing is that unfortunately few people in this fair land of ours can accept that once they are public figures or provide information to the public they are subject to criticism as long as it is constructive.

No doubt Mr Vella Gera has all the necessary modern technological equipment to ensure accuracy in weather forecasting and I, a mere mortal, would never dare challenge his conclusions. I was merely pointing out an inaccuracy on the website... weather forecasting never came into it.
