The Minister of Education, Youth and Employment, Louis Galea has set up the Malta Qualifications Council (MQC) which will be replacing and extending the work previously carried out by the former Maltese Council for Professional and Vocational Qualifications.

The MQC's role will be to regulate certification issues by both public and private educational institutions. Through such regulation, it will become much easier for institutions to compare qualifications and, more importantly, it will facilitate the mobility of students, the government said.

The following have been nominated members of the council for three years, starting from January 1: Charles Mizzi (chairman), Felix Borg, Anthony de Giovanni, Veronica Grech, Grace Grima, Charmaine Portelli and Emmanuel Zahra.
