Over 73,000 telephone calls were registered on the donation line system installed for this year's edition of the L-Istrina campaign.

The hefty figure represents the number of donations pledged by members of the public who phoned in on Maltacom lines during the TV charity marathon last Monday.

Besides fixed telephony, text messaging systems were open for donations too and people also opted to make their donations personally during the fund-raising show.

This year, Maltacom will again waive all fees due to it for services during L-Istrina campaign. This includes the 25c charge on every incoming call registered on the phone-in donation system, installation charges for the donation lines and other fees.

Maltacom said the system will be open until January 8 so that those who were unable to phone in during the L-Istrina marathon on Boxing Day will still have the opportunity to pledge a donation towards this very worthy cause.
