Fisherman reported missing

A 47-year-old man who yesterday morning left home to spend time fishing from the shore close to Cirkewwa was reported missing in the afternoon by members of his family, the army said yesterday.

The search by the army yielded the man's fishing gear and his vehicle at Cirkewwa.

The army dispatched its Melita Class SAR launch and a Bremse Class patrol craft to the area including a dive team which, however, was unable to conduct a search due to the rough seas.

The search was scheduled to continue throughout the night and also today.

"Sea conditions were not favourable with rough seas resulting from the strong south-westerly and westerly winds of the past days," the army said in a statement.
