A man has been conditionally discharged for two years after admitting to the theft of Lm4,000 worth of electricity over five years.

Alfred Stivala, 61, of Swieqi, admitted to the theft of electricity and to tampering with the electricity meter between November 1999 and September 2004 to the detriment of Enemalta Corporation.

On handing down judgement, Magistrate Anthony Vella noted that Mr Stivala had paid back the amount stolen.

Police Inspector Therese Sciberras prosecuted.
