British long distance swimmer Lewis Pugh trains in Cape Town, South Africa, in a small pool filled with chunks of ice to bring the water temperature down to below 1 degree Celsius (34 F), in this December 1, 2005 file picture. Pugh set a new world record for the most southerly long-distance swim, conquering the icy Antarctic waters at 65 degrees south, his research team said on Tuesday. The one kilometre swim follows just months after a record Arctic swim, making the British solicitor the first person to accomplish such a feat in both the world's coldest seas.
