I can truly understand how Christine Azzopardi feels (Are You Being Served? December 17). Not too long ago an advertisement on the TV selling shoes caught my interest and my wife and I went to the shop in Valletta.

As we walked in we were the only customers. Two sales girls sat in a corner chatting away. We stood there for a couple of minutes but neither of them greeted us. Finally my wife excused herself (which she didn't have to) and said that her husband would like to see a pair of shoes. One of the girls said they didn't have my size. How would they know if they didn't ask what size I take?

So we walked out and went to a shop a few doors away which had a lot of customers. The salesman said he would serve us as soon as he was finished with his customer. Makes one wonder why this shop had more customers than the other. There are many unemployed people who would do anything for a job although they might be over 40, which has become a problem. But some employers prefer hiring young, pretty girls. Some of them are only good for window shopping as they have no interest in selling anything.
