A school in Cospicua has joined forces with schools in five European countries in its first Comenius project.

The project - Developing Health And Welfare Education In The European Union Primary School - aims to instil awareness about the practical health and welfare education issues that make up the students' and teachers' day-to-day life in EU countries.

St Francis School in Cospicua is taking part together with schools from Scotland, Belgium, England, Germany and Poland.

The first task was to prepare a presentation on the national and local structure of the education system, together with the school structure and methods of teaching.

Children were involved in the project and some of them have sent e-mails to students in the other participating countries. Others mailed greeting cards and letters with the help of the class teacher.

Last month head teachers and teachers from the six participating schools met at the Toermalyn Primary School in Stekene Belgium, where they discussed the project.
