I write in response to the letter Online Slips (December 16) that misquoted information from ww.maltaweather.com. As a member of maltaweather, I had received a heavy rain watch on the Friday for the following five days and again a flood watch indicating heavy showers and possible severe thunderstorms on Monday at 9 a.m., when the weather was still sunny.
Also, the forecast for thunderstorms on Tuesday was present on www.maltaweather.com from Sunday morning! The forecast was certainly pretty accurate.
Current conditions only report current weather in the location of the weather station. This means that while it could be raining heavily in one location it could be raining less heavily in another. This is because storm clouds can be rather slow moving and localised. This state of affairs also occurred last Tuesday when certain areas in Malta received much more rainfall than others. It also happened in August, September and October when we had very isolated heavy rain showers causing a great maldistribution of rainfall around the islands. This may be an indication of anthropogenic climate change.
