Juventus's triumphal march at the top of Serie A stumbled last night when they were held 1-1 by Lazio at Rome's Olympic Stadium.

First-half goals by Tommaso Rocchi and David Trezeguet cancelled each other out, the result giving Juventus 43 points from 16 matches, 11 ahead of their nearest rivals Inter and Fiorentina, who play Reggina and Empoli respectively today.

Juventus arrived at the Olympic Stadium on the back of 14 wins in their opening 15 Serie A matches but were immediately put under pressure by an aggressive Lazio side whose home form this season - played seven, won five, drawn two - suggested they were capable of stretching the league leaders.

It was Lazio captain Paolo Di Canio who set up the goal that gave them a 16th-minute lead, bursting into the area and angling in a shot that was parried by Christian Abbiati.

The ball rolled to Juve defender Lilian Thuram, but instead of hoisting it up the field the French international tried to dribble his way out of danger and lost possession to Christian Manfredini, who passed back across the area for Tommaso Rocchi to score.

As Juve tried to rediscover their rhythm, winger Massimo Oddo went close to doubling Lazio's lead, blazing a shot narrowly over the bar from the edge of the area.

Juve were struggling but equalised thanks to a typically opportunistic Trezeguet goal in the 26th minute.

Mauro Camoranesi curled a free-kick to Pavel Nedved, unmarked at the far post. The Czech midfielder headed into the ground, the ball bouncing over keeper Angelo Peruzzi and Trezeguet popped up at the far post to nod in his 14th Serie A goal in 14 appearances this season.

Juventus maintained their momentum after the break when Zlatan Ibrahimovic shot wide then neatly set up Trezeguet whose effort was saved by Peruzzi.

It wasn't only Lazio's keeper having a good game though.

Oddo was also producing one of his best performances of the season and having chased back to cut out a dangerous low cross by Trezeguet, the winger crossed for substitute Igli Tare who headed wide.

Juve pressed hard for the winner but Lazio held out to breathe a little life into the title race.

Earlier Treviso moved off the bottom when they beat fellow strugglers Lecce 2-1 with goals by striker Pinga and Emanuele Filippini.

The victory - Treviso's first at home this season - lifted them to 17th, with 11 points from 16 matches. Lecce, also on 11 points, slipped one place to 18th.
