Malta Freeport yesterday welcomed CMA CGM's new mega container ship, Otello, currently on her maiden voyage.

At 334 metres, she is the largest CMA CGM vessel ever to call at its facilities; she has a deadweight tonnage of 100,000 tons and a service speed of 25.4 knots.

This container ship, built by Hyundai Heavy Industries, was deployed on the FAL Far East/Europe service.

The Otello called at the ports of Pusan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Hong Kong, Chiwan and Port Klang before calling at Malta Freeport, and will proceed to Le Havre, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Zeebrugge and Southampton after discharging 587 containers and loading 438 containers at Malta Freeport.

CMA CGM, which acquired a 30-year concession to manage and operate Malta Freeport facilities last year, is the third largest shipping line in the world.

It is currently undergoing a major upgrade of its container ship fleet.
