Considering that we now have a chain of Tal-Lira (Lm1) shops, we must not forget who introduced the concept in Malta. We owe it to Joe Sant, who originated and established Tal-Lira Ltd back in January 1997. My wife and I are regular customers at Tal-Lira.
It was eight years ago when the first four shops, where all items retailed for Lm1, opened in Birkirkara, Hamrun, L-Iklin and Rabat. Tal-Lira Ltd has since expanded to meet demand.
They have now grown to 20 outlets in Malta. The latest is Tal-Lira Superstore in L-Iklin, the largest of all their outlets. Over the next couple of years the company aims to extend and renovate their stores to provide a better display and wider variety of items.
Apart from a wide choice of single items for Lm1, there are items being sold on the basis of two or more for Lm1.
Moreover, although VAT last year rose from 15 to 18 per cent, the price remains Lm1.
In the past eight years these shops have been renovated and refurbished to display a variety of stock in accordance with consumer demands. Due to gained popularity and an expanding turnover, Tal-Lira Ltd can bargain for better prices while improving their quality.
All outlets are replenished daily so that no outlet is short of the variety of stock. Indeed, it is the company's policy to provide customers with value for money.
