The Bank of Valletta L-Istrina campaign officially ends today when President Eddie Fenech Adami visits St Aloysius College, in Birkirkara, where he used to attend as a child.
"The children's enthusiasm that characterised this year's BOV L-Istrina campaign was outstanding and only helped to make this experience a memorable one for all those who were involved," Michael Galea, head of public relations and corporate branding at Bank of Valletta, said.
"Children from all the schools we visited warmly welcomed all the personalities who gave a helping hand during the collection of about 7,000 piggy banks over the past two weeks. Three large piggy banks on open trucks visited schools in Malta and Gozo to collect the piggy banks that were distributed to every school since the beginning of November," he explained.
The piggy bank campaign supported by BOV involved about 65,000 students in 2,800 classrooms from all schools in Malta and Gozo.
"The generosity and solidarity we witnessed throughout these weeks as children donated a small part of their savings to those more in need was an experience we will never forget," Mr Galea added.
The bank has pledged to top up the funds collected from the piggy banks campaign by a further Lm10,000 and the total amount of money collected will be announced during the live transmission of L-Istrina on PBS on December 26.
