The Malta Environment and Planning Authority yesterday unanimously approved an outline development permit to demolish the former Les Lapins Hotel in Ta' Xbiex and replace it with a small hotel, commercial and residential units and a car park.

The main elevation of the proposed development overlooks ix-Xatt Ta' Xbiex street, while the back elevation is on Triq l-Imradd.

One of the conditions against which the permit was approved is that 20 per cent of the site is to be retained for hotel use.

Another condition is that the height of the building on the Xatt Ta' Xbiex street shall not exceed the permitted six floors and the maximum allowable height of 23 metres measured from the highest street level, with overlying penthouse.

The height of the building on l-Imradd Street shall not exceed both the permitted number of four floors and the maximum allowable height of 15.75 metres measured from the highest street level, with overlying penthouse.
