Ir-Razzett tal-Hbiberija is a non-profit organisation that regularly offers an array of health and leisure services free of charge to over 1,000 disabled persons. It depends entirely on the generosity of the public and of its sponsors for its continued operation.
The Badminton Association recently organised an annual fund-raising event in aid of this organisation.
This year the event was upgraded to a 12-hour marathon at St Martin's College, Swatar.
Singles and doubles matches were in continuous progress. The first match started at 9 a.m. The marathon was open to everyone: beginners, intermediate and experienced players. There was no age limit.
Both Nathan Farrugia, chief executive officer of Ir-Razzett tal-Hbiberija, and Janatha Stubbs visited St Martin's at different times during the day while the marathon was in progress.
The overall proceeds amounted to Lm215. Mrs Stubbs thanked the Badminton Association and its members for staging the event and for raising the money to help offset part of the operational costs entailed in running Ir-Razzett tal-Hbiberija.
