Polidano Brothers Limited (Polidano Group) became the proud owners of a brand new fleet of Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks. This fleet, consisting of 20 new tipper trucks and concrete mixers, is surely a first for Malta and goes to show the progressive thinking and leadership of Polidano Group in the local construction industry.
The trucks have been supplied through the Mercedes Benz local importers Auto Sales Ltd while the Liebherr concrete mixers and the Meiller heavy-duty rear end tippers have been supplied through their local distributors SR Services.
The Mercedes-Benz Actros is a heavy goods vehicle that maximises comfort and driver safety by incorporating the latest in modern technology. It is available in 18, 26, 38, 40, 41 and 44-ton weights. Polidano's new fleet is fitted with the latest four-axle, 8x4 Actros 4141 chassis and have GVW of 41 tons.
Robustness, reliability and off-road capability have become synonymous with the construction-site versions of the Actros. The wide range of variants provides scope for the right body to suit any application, whether as a dump truck, crane tipper, concrete mixer, semi trailer tractor or special purpose chassis.
The Actros has a design working life of a million kilometres with service required at 100,000 km intervals. This is possible because of the Telligent Injection system, which effectively doubles the previous service intervals.
The truck's Telligent technology with ASR anti-skid traction control and ABS also reduces stopping distances by up to 30 per cent compared with trucks with conventional braking systems. This innovative braking system works as the brain of the truck, resulting in more power, less fuel and up to 50 per cent lower emissions.
The standard cabs are among the largest and most comfortable in the world. The Telligent gearshift lever, integrated into the armrest of the driver's suspension seat, allows easy gear shifting with a flick of the wrist. The multifunction steering wheel, from which various diagnostic functions can be controlled, is pneumatically adjustable at the touch of a button.
The adjustable seats have fatigue-reducing suspension and their upholstery fabrics are dirt-repellent and extremely hard wearing. The door control panel has a clearly arranged group of switches controlling the power windows, mirror adjustment, heated exterior mirrors etc. The large windscreen and side windows along with the heated exterior mirrors enhance road visibility.
