Will the management plan eventually take into account human activity?
Being a coastal MPA, a wide range of activities, terrestrial, coastal and marine, are rife in the area.
It has been proposed that these aspects will be dealt with in a phased approach, such that different measures would need to be applied gradually to achieve the desired objectives in a practical and realistic manner.
The presence of data gaps should not hinder the management process, and thus this proposed phasing will provide further support for the structured implementation required for comprehensive site management.
Therefore, the comprehensive management of the site will take a three-phased approach, starting with the marine environment as the main aspect of a marine protected area. The suggested timeframes for this phasing will be dealt with separately in Section 4 of the document.
Phase I - Management of the marine environment.
Phase II - Management of the terrestrial and coastal environments.
Phase III - Comprehensive management: an integration of phases I and II.
