Nature Trust welcomes MLP environment study

Nature Trust Malta has noted that the Labour Party document on environmental issues covers various sectors and goes beyond the usual limited vision on the actual meaning of the word environment.

It is a welcome move that a political party drafts an environmental policy and issues it for consultation, it said.

However, it adds, the draft needs to come up with new ideas and tends to lack depth in the various sectors raised and methods to be adopted. The NGO said the lack of a dedicated section on tourism is of concern. On the other hand, the inclusion of issues such as noise pollution, environment and health, as well as on environmental education is avant-garde.

Nature Trust referred to the call for the consideration of rehabilitating Maghtab into a golf-course.

It said it was concerned at the creation of two more golf courses in addition to the one in Marsa and urged the MLP to carry out a serious financial viability assessment before embarking on such projects.
