Pride of cats

A coffee-coloured Persian from the Micabliss cattery seduced the judges and the public with its cute features and feline sophistication, clinching the award for Best Cat in all categories at this weekend's cat show.

Gege, owned by Maryrose Zammit, was deemed the cutest of the lot, no mean feat considering the tough competition from 70 other felines which took part in the second Malta Feline Guardians Club cat show.

Another Micabliss Persian named Love Lady Attraction, owned by Antonella Bonetti, clinched first prize in the Pure Breed Kitten category; Micabliss Persian Zeus, owned by Katja Cassar, won the Pure Breed Adult Cat category; Gasper, owned by George Camilleri won the Domestic Cats category, while Rodianne Caligari and her cat Grigio won the award for Best Decorated Cage.

About 900 people turned up at the Westin Dragonara Resort, St George's Bay, on Sunday for the cat show, which was described a success by club president Kevin Charles Micallef.

The show, held under the auspices of the American International Cat Association (TICA), brought together numerous cat lovers who showed off their fluffy pets to a cooing public.

The cats on show were examined by a vet, while the groomer provided tips and useful information on how owners should care for their pets.Besides the trophies, the winners of each category will be given vouchers from the various sponsors as an additional prize. The vouchers will be presented during the next club seminar, which is going to be held next month. Photos of the show can be viewed on the club's website: www.maltafelineguardiansclub.com.

Mr Micallef thanked all those who helped to organise the show and the sponsors. A good team helped towards obtaining a good result and the show was of a high standard.

Mr Micallef also announced that the next cat show will be held in March. The date and place of the event will be announced later.
