Soccer Violence: Two people were shot dead in a clash between rival football fans following a match in Rio de Janeiro. A coach carrying around 20 supporters of visiting club Fortaleza was attacked by a group of men in a traffic jam shortly after leaving the Brazilian championship match against Botafogo on Sunday night, a spokesman said.

Deisler: Bayern Munich's German international Sebastian Deisler was banned for three matches yesterday for a retaliatory kick that earned him a red card in a weekend match against VfB Stuttgart. Deisler was sent off in the 42nd minute of the scoreless draw after lashing out at Swiss international Ludovic Magnin.

Portsmouth: Southampton have rejected a "derisory" offer of compensation from Portsmouth for their manager Harry Redknapp, the second division club said yesterday. Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric, who has been looking for a manager since he sacked Frenchman Alain Perrin two weeks ago, immediately turned his search towards N. Ireland coach Lawrie Sanchez.

Romario: Irrepressible striker Romario finished as the Brazilian championship's top scorer on Sunday after converting two penalties in Vasco da Gama's 3-1 win over Parana. The 39-year-old took his tally to 22 in the competition, finishing one ahead of Paysandu's Robson.

World Cup stadium: Kaiserslautern's World Cup stadium, which was closed last week after a large crack appeared, is ready to host matches again after temporary struts were put in place. Kaiserslautern called off Saturday's scheduled Bundesliga match against Eintracht Frankfurt after a crack appeared in the east stand of the 85-year-old Fritz-Walter Stadion.
